Can Spam Make You A More Effective Blogger?

Not all spam is created equal

Not all spam is created equal

The short answer is yes, it most certainly can make you a more effective blogger.

There is however a caveat to this seemingly counterintuitive statement because the kind of Spam is what matters.

If you notice a bunch of messages in your comments area of the article you wrote and posted, there’s a good chance that a good part of it is Spam.

If the Spam in question is just a bunch of links to other sites or the text makes no sense in context of your blog then dump it, flush it and salute it as it makes it’s way to sea.

Yet there is a third kind of “Spam” that can actually help your blog rather than hurt it, this type of Spam is actually rather labor intensive for the spammer in question.

I’m talking about a “Spam” message in which it is evident that the person posting it has read your article and then posted an intelligent answer and inserted a link to hopefully garner Google’s advances.

Why is this type of Spam useful? It’s useful because it shows that your website/blog is popular, that it has a community and that your articles are discussed.

People love to read the messages left behind, they like to see what others posted in regards to your article and then they like to chime in with their own opinion on your article or an opinion of another person’s message response to your article.

The long and short of it is that people are drawn to other people, we are a social creature and that explains why social networks are so popular.

Your blog is a type of social network because it’s interactive and the “worth” of your blog is often measured by the size of your perceived audience.

So next time, don’t be so hasty in deleting all the Spam comments from your blog because you may well be erasing the seeds that could be building a community for your blog.

Glad everyone is having fun reading my articles.

I’ll be posting a lot more soon, I took a one month vacation from all this Internet stuff.

    Cheers,
