So What Just Happened With SOPA? Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced he was postponing a scheduled test vote set for Tuesday “in light of recent events.” Those recent events were each and every one of us who emailed, called and visited our representatives offices to make sure we were heard. Guess what, S.O.P.A has been taken off the schedule for voting and it’s a direct result of our actions. So Is SOPA Dead? Never to Be Heard From Again? Did We Win? This is not a full blown victory and we haven’t won the war but we did win the day. In all truth I would guess that the RIAA and it’s ilk will likely go for another bight of the proverbial apple. They will try again in due time but that time is not right now. With SOPA Temporarily Dead In The Water Can We Go Back To Our Normal Lives Or Should We Keep Fighting? It is up to us to police our lawmakers and make sure they are acting in our best interest always. Remember the saying “Freedom isn’t Free?” Well it’s true and the cost of that freedom is continued vigilance. We must [...]

What is SOPA & PIPA & Why You Should Care! SOPA is an anti-piracy bill working its way through Congress but it is a very badly written piece of legislation that will basically bring the Internet to a grinding halt. Please allow me to illustrate why you should care about SOPA and PIPA and how they can effect you if they become law. I’d like to illustrate this with a picture taken during my summer vacation. It’s a picture of myself, friends and family standing in front of McDonalds golden arches in Washington DC. Get The Picture? SOPA is a Bad Law! If SOPA passes then a mere complaint from McDonalds, without providing proof of copyright violation, can get your website or blog shut down! So Why Could Your Website Be Shut Down By the SOPA Bill if it Becomes Law? This is what makes SOPA and PIPA terrible piece of legislation! It can put your family photo’s under the control of enormous Television and Film Corporations who can shut down your blog by mearly claiming your personal family blog is violating their copyright. The most galling issue with SOPA is that it lets IP owners take these actions without [...]

The Tea Party Economic Effect Along with S&P US Credit Rating Fallout So I’ve watched the economic fallout from the the Economic fallout on Monday from the “Tea Party” and their great success at snatching failure from the jaws of failure and I am at a loss for words. So I took some notes during the day as I was watching the NYSE taking a pounding and all I can say is; UnGod Damn believable! Pardon me while I pick my jaw up off the floor since I just got off the phone with a couple of “Players” in the NYSE or “Stock Market”. What happened at the close of Monday’s trading and how does it affect the economy? Effectively, The STOCK MARKET, NYSE, COST US INVESTORS THREE TRILLION DOLLARS today. The market didn’t drop, it plunged over 650 points and entered through the gates of Dante’s Divine Comedy, it didn’t whistle past the graveyard it ran screaming through the gates that read, “Ye Who Enter These Gates, Abandon All Hope.” I just don’t get it, the Tea Party, with all it’s juvenile and uneducated glee just caused Americans to lost 3 Trillion Dollars which makes the 2.4 Tillion in [...]

S&P Lowers USA Credit Rating Held Since 1917 Well, isn’t that special, the “Tea Party” made itself heard at the cost of the USA Credit downgrade by the S&P that it held since 1917. We can now expect to see higher college costs so if anyone had plans on going to college, well you can still go but you’ll be paying that loan off a much longer time. What Caused the S&P to Downgrade the Credit Rating? That answer is fairly simple! The lack of true bipartisanship based on the idiotic ideology of a small group of “Rural” folk made themselves heard. The show that was put up in front of the world stage made the United States look like a complete mess. What did the Tea Party really gain? Nothing! The Tea Party and their patronizers accomplished absolutely nothing if the polls are at all to be believed. If we are to take the average of the big 3 News agencies, and I’m even including Fox News in that grouping, then around 60% of Republicans are completely dissatisfied with what the arguing and hostage taking got them. What Has This S&P Credit Rating Cut Taught Us? Yes, indeed, what [...]

Draconian Law H.R. 1981 To Track Everyone Using Internet I was just made aware of another Draconian law that passed through committee and will shortly be brought up to a vote. I was so enraged that I not only used a form letter but added my own twist on it. As far as I’m concerned, there are enough laws on the books that if applied, would protect kids on the Internet. The proposed law H.R. 1981 is not really supposed to protect children, it is supposed to keep an eye on regular, law abiding citizens. What happened to warrants and “Innocent until proven Guilty?” Why This Law, H.R. 1981, is so Dangerous? My father fought against a Communist regime who had their standard line “Comrade, why would you worry about being watched if you’ve done nothing wrong?” This type of thinking makes the presumption that every citizen is a criminal and flips “Innocent until proven Guilty” upside-down. Think about it, you are lead to believe that the link your just clicked would take you to an online photo-gallery of rare middle-eastern flowers and to your horror you suddenly realize that you’ve ended up on a “Jihad spewing” hate speech website [...]

What leads to a balanced Tax and Cut Economy It doesn’t take a genius to understand what is important to a healthy economy. It’s, in many ways like a household budget but not entirely, more about that later. Most Americans believe that revenue or, Tax on certain entities, is a necessity as is cutting waste from existing programs thus making them leaner but just as effective. There are two schools of thought that are being constantly cycled through the evening news till everyone is so confused that we don’t know which way is up and which way is down. The Republican idea that they have latched onto regarding any type of revenue or “tax” is a revised version of the old Reagonomics trickle down economics. Basically the idea behind trickle down economics is that if the richest people and corporations have the smallest tax level then they will have more money to spend. If they have more money to spend, due to not paying a reasonable tax, they are able to raise the economy by causing cash-flow. Secondly, if corporations enjoy the same types of tax breaks then they will have more money to spend on hiring more people and [...]

Representative Eric Cantor Doesn’t Know How A Bill Becomes Law! I sat down at 8 PM to watch my nightly news wrap up with a show, on MSNBC, called “Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell.” I immediately did a spit-take when Lawrence O’Donnell quoted Congressman Eric Cantor and Cantor’s version on how a bill becomes a law. Needless to say, I learned quite a bit about Eric Cantor. Things like he must have sat next to the smart kids in school and cheated off their papers throughout his school career. How Eric Cantor got elected to the House of Representatives when he seems to be better suited to be elected local dog catcher, where knowledge of how a bill is passed, is not of importance is beyond me. But let me back up a little bit. Lawrence O’Donnell, dedicated the first segment of his show to the air-headedness (I know that’s not a word) of the current motley crew of bubble heads like Eric Cantor and his belief that if Congress passes a bill and the Senate doesn’t vote on it in a timely manner then the bill becomes law automatically. In fact, if one is to believe Eric Cantor then [...]
