WordPress or Static? Which Types of Websites Are Better? Part 3

Over the past few weeks since I made a blog post about what kind of blogging engine is the best. I think I mis-spoke since to compare the two there are way more criteria to consider.

First of all, the blogging engine that will work best for you is entirely dependent on a few factors such as:
1. Do you have a dedicated IP or are you sharing program in which there are countless other domains and websites.

2. Versatility, In their own way both WordPress and Flat Press have their shining moments and personally I believe FP to be a lot faster. The best part of FP is that you don’t have to have access to any server side software like MySql.

Whereas WP requires lots more resources from the server and if you’re got 15 peole ( and that is a very conservative estimat) all using the same shared connection and MySQL database. This is not a problem if you’ve got a very decent host for your website. Lot’s of money in your pocket. carrying several large bills is also a good idea because there are scumbags everwhere who require a bribeand that’s when you get the items you needed in the first place.

3. WordPress can be difficult to use at times, if you’ve ever tried to put a YouTube video inside a post that you’re writing, you will be in for quite the shocker as WP doesn’t deal very nicely with YouTuge.

4. Over all, WordPress is a perfect solution as it is “idiot proof”, anyone who has a decent hosting account can install WordPress with just a click of the mouse and within 5 minutes their blog shows up and is theoretically ready for prime time.

So at this point you may be asking yourself why it is that I preffer FlatPress. Just as above I’m going to point out what makes FlatPress my favorite but I’m also going to post some flaws that have already been disovered.

So lets look at the Flatpress engine and contents of the site, maybe things like free download able packages.

1. You should really clean your site and attempt to stay away from any “cartoonish” pictures and animated gif’s. That’s the type of thing that makes a website come off as bush-league and certainly not ready to be taken seriously .

2. Price and availability should be a consideration when you’re deciding which bloging software you want to use. It’s not even a decision based on the blog engine but rather the premium themes and premium plugins that exist for both of these engines, having said that you are bound to find out that there are far fewer extras for sale for FlatPress.

3. FlatPress has a built in html editor built in but by default it is not activated, just click the correct link buttons to activate this feature. type of html editor in the CP section, as well as BB language. WordPress is lacking this feature. In any case, having the option to work in an html format means that I will be able to present my information exactly the way I imagined it and using far less time to code the blog post the way I want it. So WordPress enables me to spend much more time with the the family.

4. WordPress is relatively easy to set up if you use any of the second or third party installation tools that set up the database as well as the blog software but FP is beyond easy to set up. It has a nothing to do with MySQL and it’s not about to start. FP handles everything in text files which are small, fast writing & fast reading. In my opinion that’s a great idea. Towards the end of this article you will find a rough draft for installing Flat Press & if you were to follow those instructions you would have a FlatPress blog up and running in a matter of minutes. The installation writeup doesn’t really go into detail but that’s not very important, most folks (myself included) just want things to work.

5. you’ll get far less automated Spam on Flat Press because ATM the FlatPress blogs have far to few people so they aren’t being treated as Spam just yet. If we end up being successful in growing and promoting this software it will certainly attract black-hat guerrilla spammers.

6. Flat Press has most of the popular plug-ins and applications often the exact same ones that WordPress users enjoy. FP is search engine optimized as you can see once you install it on a server. Yes, installation extremely easy to install, you simply take the zip file or the unzipped folder and ftp it to your server then you go into the folder you just uploaded and find the “install” file and all you need to do is press it and if I recall the software only asks you a couple of easy questions. After installation the software will provide you with a link to the admin login page. The user-name and password by default is admin and admin. You’ll want to get into the control panel as soon as possible and change the login information to something unique. Finally, if you so desire, you can go do a search on the Internet for Flat Press themes and you’ll find a decent selection, not a great selection but I would say not a bad one either.

  1. Doing some web surfing and noticed your blog looks a bit messed up in my K-meleon browser. But fortunately hardly anyone uses it any longer but you may want to look into it.
